Lunchtime Concert on Hrísey Island

The Akureyri Chamber Music Festival teams up with the annual Hrísey Dance Festival to present a short and sweet lunchtime concert in Sæborg Community Centre. A perfect way to warm up your spirits before heading onto the dance floor. To get visit Hrísey, visit www.hrisey.is/en and check out the ferry schedule which leaves every two hours from Árskógsssandur. Tickets to the concert can be purchased at the door or on www.tix.is.

This evening concert in Glerárkirkja Church features three works from different time periods, starting with a string quartet by the youthful Ludwig van Beethoven. Second on the programme is a string quartet deeply inspired by Beethoven’s quartet by the living American composer Caroline Shaw. Finally, a dramatic and emotional piano quartet by Johannes Brahms closes the concert. Tickets can be purchased at the door or on www.tix.is.

Schumann & Dvorák
Finale in Hof

Hamrar Concert Hall, Hof Cultural Centre, Akureyri

August 18 @ 16.00pm

Ticket price: 4.500 kr.

The final concert of the festival takes place in Hamrar Hall at Hof Cultural Centre right on the beautiful fjord of Eyjafjörður. Two staples of the chamber music repertoire are on the programme, both jubilant and exhilirating to perform and the listen to. Firstly, Dvorák’s most famous string quartet, inspired by his trip to the New World in the 1890s. Secondly, Schumann’s piano quintet, an undisputed masterpiece and sure to bring this ebullient concert to a triumphant finish.
